LYNDEN Pindling International Airport (LPIA) marked the official opening of its new premium passenger lounge, the Lignum Club, with a cocktail reception.

Among those in attendance were Lorraine Armbrister, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Aviation; George Casey, President, Vantage Airport Group and Vernice Walkine, President and CEO, Nassau Airport Development Company.

Located in LPIA’S Domestic and International Terminal, the new lounge offers travellers another superb addition to the variety of shop, dine and relax amenities at the airport. The Club is managed and operated by NAD and offers exciting food and beverage options, a business centre with computer workstations, full-service bar, cable TV, private meeting space and concierge services.

The Lignum Club has an all-inclusive cover charge. And passengers can make a reservation online at  www.thelignumclub.com or simply walk in. Individual, corporate and group membership plans for frequent
travellers are also available. Ms Walkine noted in her remarks: “The Lignum Club is one of the few passenger lounges in the region that is managed and operated by the airport in which it is located. Additionally, as a member of the Priority Pass airport lounge network, the Club will quickly distinguish itself as one of the regional lounges of choice for the network’s discerning customer base of 10 million members.”

Well done! I have travelled through LPIA to London Heathrow on a number of occasions since 2012. I have seen the airport progress from the old domestic terminal (which I had some degree of fondness for) to the new sparkly one The one thing, which has always been sadly lacking has been a lounge. I have spent many an hour in the ‘spare gate’ that BA used to use for its executive lounge.

Lignum is a great asset and the staff are exceptional. My only worry is that it is in danger of becoming too popular with the LHR fight due to the poor facilities in the rest of the terminal at that time and the ease of access to the lounge. It was extremely busy when I was there last week and I am unsure how many passengers know of its existence at present. The departure lounge in the domestic/international terminal doesn’t currently cater for international flights at such a late hour…perhaps this could be addressed??
